Burton O. Waterman

CASSADAGA – Burton O. Waterman, 89, of Cassadaga, went home to his Lord and Savior on March 19, 2013.

Born Dec. 14, 1923, in Cassadaga, son of the late Merle B. and Alice V. Waite Waterman. A Cassadaga resident most of his life, he was a 1941 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School.

Burt was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and was a prisoner of war in Germany, Stalog VII/A.

He was a graduate of Capital Radio Engineering Institute, Washington, D.C. and employed in Radio Engineering for Colonial Radio Corp., Buffalo and for 55 years with WKSN, Jamestown, retiring in 2004. From 1941-44 he was employed at American Locomotive, Dunkirk.

Burt was a member of Zion Tabernacle Church, Odd Fellows 664, Ellery VFW 557, exempt member of Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department, charter member of Cassadaga Memorial American Legion Post 1280, former Scout Master of Troop 19, Cassadaga. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but church and family were first and foremost. Burt was extremely giving to all he loved. He enjoyed fixing TVs and radios for anyone who asked or helping with any electrical problems that he could. He will be remembered by all who new him for his kindness, generosity, trustworthiness and faithfulness.

Husband of the late Eileen Sharpe Waterman and for 36 years to the late Elizabeth J. O’Dell Waterman, whom he married Oct. 23, 1968, and died May 24, 2005; father of Robert (Wendy) Waterman of Dunkirk, Richard (Nancy) Waterman of Celoron, Dale (Denise) Waterman of Bemus Point, Penny Water-man of Jensen Beach, Fla., and Laurie Winchell of Tampa, Fla.; grandfather of 21 and numerous great-grandchildren; brother of, Nancy Gravelle of Amherst, Kenneth (Joan) Waterman of Cassadaga and the late Mary Swanson, Cora Peterson and Norman Waterman. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. Visitation 4-7 p.m. Thursday. Burial in Cassadaga Cemetery.
