Robert I. “Smoky” Welsh
Robert I. “Smoky” Welsh, formerly of Busti, now residing in Celoron, N.Y., went home to the Lord peacefully at home.
He was an area resident all of his life. He was born Sept. 12, 1928, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late Robert J. and Mildred E. Boardman Welsh of Busti, N.Y.
Smoky was employed for 37 years at National Fuel Gas, from where he retired. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an avid junk collector and a life member of the Busti Fire Department.
He is survived by son, Robert (Sandy) Welsh of Celoron, N.Y.; grandchildren: Kenny, Wilbur, Bernice, April and Bobby; daughter, Debra Roemer of Jamestown; granddaughter, Karen; daughter, Rebecca (June) Chapman of Celoron; grandchildren: Jonathan and Elizabeth; son, Richard (Laurie) Welsh of Frewsburg; grandchildren: DVM Chevy, Ricky, Soda pop, Tricia and Travis; lifelong friend, Donald Smith of Clymer, N.Y.; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Nelson Welsh; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Margaret Thorsell.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
