LINKS Charity Donates $100,000 For Breast Cancer Care

Now in its 22nd year, LINKS Charity officials have a busy year ahead.

Beginning with “Pink the Rink” at the Jamestown Ironmen’s first home playoff game in April, continuing with the annual LINKS LPGA golf pro-am, LINKS golf scramble, and LINKing Together Banquet and Auction on July 29-30 at Moon Brook Country Club, and finishing with the third annual LINKS Pink Walk on Oct. 5 at the Chautauqua Mall, 2013 will be a busy fundraising year for the LINKS Charity.

Spearheaded by lead sponsor Truck-Lite and major sponsors Cummins, United Refining Company, ALSTAR EMS and The Bilicki Law Firm, along with associate sponsors Veracity Benefits and Jamestown Savings Bank, LINKS Charity officials said recently that in 2012, it successfully raised $100,000 to support the local fight against breast cancer. 2012 was the first of its three-year, $300,000 pledge toward the purchase of 3-D Breast Tomosynthesis to aid in the diagnosis of breast cancer at WCA Hospital. In total, LINKS Charity has now raised $978,000 toward local cancer care efforts.

“We are so pleased that in 2013, LINKS Charity will surpass the $1 million mark, an extraordinary feat,” said Brad Van Riper, senior vice president for Truck-Lite and executive director for LINKS Charity. “We anticipate another banner year as we strive to reach our goal of funding 3-D Breast Tomosynthesis at WCA, and we are confident that our community will support this local effort to more effectively diagnose breast cancer.”

“Once again, LINKS Charity sponsors and volunteers are proving their exceptional commitment to local cancer care,” said Betsy T. Wright, WCA Hospital president and chief executive officer. “We are so thankful for the generosity of so many that will enable our community hospital to stay on the cutting edge of technology, resulting in earlier detection of breast cancer and lives saved.”

LINKS Charity, established in 1991, was co-founded by Mary Blair and Sondra Anderson. Their commitment and passion along with many benevolent volunteers, including Allen Short, executive director for the first 19 years, has been remarkable. LINKS Charity continues in its mission to link the community, business, and industry together to enhance local cancer care at WCA Hospital.
