Test Of Time
Brittany Johnston, a Cassadaga Valley junior, has received an award and recognition for designing the winning logo for the district’s upcoming 75th anniversary celebration to be held Oct. 11-13.
The certificate and award were presented recently by John Sipos and Sue Lawson, committee members, at the high school. Faculty and staff members attended the meeting, along with other students who submitted logos in an art class project taught by Nicole Shields and Joy Russo.
Brittany, a student in Russo’s advanced art class, expressed surprise that she had won the contest, and said that she really hasn’t thought of a graphic arts career. “I just really like the class,” she said. Students were dressed in “career day” attire, and Brittany aspires to a career in the military, most likely the army. Her favorite sport is playing soccer and enjoys all her classes and doesn’t have a particular favorite. She is the daughter of Richard and Veronica Johnston of Gerry.
All students submitting logos were awarded a certificate of achievement and their work will also be on display at the celebration in October. These students included: Jessica Ames, Kailah Andersen, Kylee Braymiller, Megan Brown, Kaitlyn Deering, Brittany DeGolier, Jasmine Gill, Naomi Greenstein, Jennifer Holley, Preslie Johnson, Megan Leffler, Sanda Lincoln, Rebecca Masiker, Michaela Rosplock, Maya Sischo, Luke Swan, Deborah Walker and Brittany Woodard. The assignment was an effective blend of student involvement with a community real-world project.
The Cassadaga Valley 75th Anniversary Celebration committee was formed in 2012 to plan and prepare for a communitywide celebration to be held on Oct. 11-13. Members attending the high school presentation included John and Susan Sipos, Sue Lawson, Kathy Schroeder, Mary Holton, Karole Lawson, Marie Martin, Walter Waite, Debbie Ulrich and Peggy Heath. Valory Isaacson also attended from The Post-Journal.
The mission of the committee is “… to create a unifying experience for the CVCS district, community members, students, teachers, staff, and administrators to celebrate the history, achievements, and contributions of the past 75 years as an educational institution in Chautauqua County, N.Y.” The motto is “… celebrating 75 years of working together.”
The logo completes the three essential parts of the planning model and enables the committee to move forward with advertising materials, posters, mugs, clothing and publications for the celebration.
