Cattaraugus County Sheriff Reminds Drivers To Be Cautious During Holiday Weekend
As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, Cattaraugus County Sheriff Timothy S. Whitcomb is urging motorists to plan a safe ride home.
During the holiday, law enforcement officials in Cattaraugus County will have additional patrols as part of its Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over public safety campaign.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that more than 700 people were killed nationwide in crashes involving drunk drivers during St. Patrick’s Day holidays from 2006 to 2010. The New York State Sheriffs’ Association Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation, formed in 1934, for the purpose of assisting sheriffs in the efficient and effective delivery of sheriffs’ services to the public. It comprises all of the elected and appointed sheriffs of New York state.
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee awards federal highway safety grant funds to local, state and not-for-profit agencies for projects to improve highway safety and reduce deaths and serious injuries due to crashes.
