RTPI President To

Present Thursday

On Thursday at 7 p.m. Dr. Twan Leenders, president of the Roger Tory Peterson Institute will present a program at RTPI titled Vernal Pools. In almost any wooded area, along country roads, even on the edges of the city of Jamestown, are shallow puddles of spring rain and melted snow. Biologists call these water-filled depressions “vernal pools.” By summer they usually dry up and disappear. But at this time of year they become the focal point in the life cycle of some of the most incredible animals you will ever see up close. They include singing wood frogs and big, spotted salamanders dancing underwater. The program is free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated.
