Cycle Shop Sets Up Endowment For JCC Athletic Scholarships

Jamestown Cycle Shop is establishing an athletics endowment at Jamestown Community College to provide scholarships for the educational expenses of full-time student athletes.

“Jamestown Cycle Shop has always had a great relationship with JCC’s athletics program, staff and athletes,” said Steve Deyo, Jamestown Cycle Shop owner. “We want to do something to encourage and support JCC. Endowing a fund to help JCC athletes is the right thing to do and will provide support for decades to come.”

The Jamestown Cycle Shop Athletic Fund will become endowed over several years.

“Local businesses can’t do everything at once,” said Michael Moots, JCC Foundation executive director. “The Cycle Shop will have the time it needs to fully fund the endowment.”

JCC’s intercollegiate athletics program features 11 teamss. A total of 189 student-athletes participated in team sports in 2012.

“Data indicates that JCC athletes are more likely to complete their studies and graduate than are non-athletes,” noted Keith Martin, JCC’s director of athletics. “Our athletes consistently receive awards for academic achievement, outstanding sportsmanship, and for their many community service activities.”

Established in 1924, Jamestown Cycle Shop serves the competitive and recreational sporting goods needs of the area through bicycle sales and service, Team Jock Shop sporting goods, and winter sports equipment and gear. The business operates a bicycle rental program at Chautauqua Institution during the summer.
