Loss Of Beaver Leads To Loss Of Game For JCC Women

BUFFALO – An unfortunate accident turned the tide for Jamestown Community College in the NJCAA Region 3 Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament semifinals against host Erie CC on Saturday afternoon.

Kelsie Beaver suffered a facial injury and left the game after she was hit by an Erie player during the first half.

”It took the steam out of the team the rest of the way,” said JCC coach George Sisson after the Jayhawks lost 72-50.

The injury to Beaver came with the Jayhawks trailing, 16-14, about 12 minutes into the game. The foul shots were made on technical, but Erie had a run toward the end of the first half for a 30-25 lead.

Ashley DePane of JCC had three of her four 3-pointers during the first half and went over 500 points for her career.

In the second half, Erie again had several runs and went on to a 42-25 advantage. The Lady Kats extended a 10-point lead to 20 points with its full-court pressure

DePane had 16 points for the Jayhawks, who wound up with a 16-14 record.

”We played hard and I had a classy group of girls that battled hard,” said Sisson.

Alexis Gray scored 21 points and Charmaine Weaver added 12 points for the hosts (20-5) who are the defending champions.

DePane was also named to the all-region second team and Taylor Storer and Beaver were named to the third team.
