Sylvia Swan Earns Promotion

CASSADAGA – The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy has promoted Sylvia Cross Swan, originally from Deferiet, N.Y., to social development director.

Swan has been employed by Job Corps for 16 years and has also worked as a residential adviser, orientation specialist, recreation aid, substitute teacher, counselor and most recently as counseling manager. As social development director she will be responsible for the management and oversight of the academy’s residential, counseling and recreation departments. The three departments play a role in the development of social skills and critical independent living skills.

“Every day is different here, our students growth and development is really what keeps driving me,” Swan said. “Our beautiful campus provides a unique opportunity to focus on developing not only professionally but also personally.”

Swan holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the State University at Fredonia. She is a certified rape crisis counselor and forensic interviewer. In addition to her duties at the academy, Swan serves as the secretary for the Child Advocacy Program of Chautauqua County board. She owns and operates her own small business, Lasting Impressions, as well. She lives in Fredonia with her husband and two daughters.

“Mrs. Swan has been an integral part of this academy for many years,” said Ann Anderson, academy director. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this challenging senior management position. I appreciate her attention to detail and passion for working with our students and staff.”
