Dorris Mae May

STEAMBURG – Dorris Mae May, 86, of Arrance Road, Steamburg, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2013), in the home of her daughter, Shirley in Steamburg, with her family by her side.

Mrs. May was born Aug. 18, 1926, in Warren County, Corydon Township, Pa., the daughter of the late Bert and Ruth Hollister Saxton.

Dorris attended Falconer Central School, and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the former Steamburg Free Church and was a trustee for Minister Harley Acker. She also formerly served the auxiliary of the Coldspring Volunteer Fire Department.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be remembered as a great cook, avid book reader who enjoyed watching birds, gardening, crocheting and knitting.

Dorris is survived by three daughters: Shirley May Young and husband, Jack, of Steamburg, Sharon May Johnson of Jamestown and Lori May Panebianco and husband, Paul, of Clay, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Cindy May of Guys Mills, Pa.; nine grandchildren: Christie, Cheryl, Cathleen, Katrina, Dustin, Taylor, Brandon, Brian and Alan; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lois Swanson of Falconer, and Janice Gardner of Pittsfield, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her husband, Earl Newman May, whom she married on July 2, 1949, and who preceded her on Sept. 30, 1989; a son, Bert N. May, on June 20, 2011; a sister, Rose Manning and an infant sister, Carolyn Saxton.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (March 2, 2013), in the Steamburg Cemetery. The Rev. Rodney Mileham, pastor of the East Randolph United Methodist Church, will officiate. Visitation will not be observed.
