NCCC Ends Jayhawks’ Season

SANBORN – Despite a tremendous performance from freshman Tyreek Jewell, Jamestown Community College’s men basketball squad was eliminated in the first round of NJCAA Region 3 Division II Tournament on Tuesday night.

Jewell had 36 points and grabbed eight rebounds in an 87-68 setback to Niagara County CC(21-8).

The loss ended JCC’s season at 13-16 with losses in the last three games.

The Jayhawks trailed at halftime, 47-34, and were behind by as much many as23 points with 3:10 remaining in the game.

Jewell made 13 of 25 floor shots and 6 o 6 from the foul line en route to a career-high for the Jayhawks.

The only other player to reach double figures was sophomore Calvin Sterling with 13 points and five assists.

Jordan Sweet came off the Niagara County bench and scored 30 points and hauled down nine rebounds. He was 14 of 16 from the floor.

Sweet was given help from Isaiah Johnson with 17 points and Victor Verdecia with 11 points.

Rebounds were also a factor as NCCC controlled the boards, 41-28, led by Sweet.
