Rabb Co-Authors Chapter For College Textbook

A new college textbook examining trends and challenges for expanding access to post-secondary education via technology includes a chapter co-written by a Jamestown Community College faculty member.

A Global Perspective On Opportunities and Obstacles to Development, published in late 2012 by authors Rebecca Clothey, Stacy Austin-Li, and John Weidman, features case studies and analyses written by people involved in relevant projects around the world. In one of the book’s chapters, Gregory Rabb, professor of political science at JCC, and two other educators outlined the use of simulations to enhance teaching and learning strategies in community colleges.

The chapter, titled “The International Negotiation Modules Project,” explores how integrated technology can be used effectively to teach students about international issues and negotiations. For several years, Rabb has guided JCC students through international simulations offered by several educational consortiums.

In an international negotiation module, students use an online, web-based platform to negotiate issues of importance to the foreign countries they represent.

A member of the JCC faculty since 1986, Rabb earned a juris doctorate at the State University of New York at Buffalo, a master’s degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a bachelor’s degree at Canisius College. Rabb, who also serves as JCC’s global education coordinator, received the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2011.
