SWCS Grad Joins Law Firm

R. Shane Uber, has joined the law firm of Spoto, Slater & Sirwatka.

The son of Melissa Uber and the late Robert Uber, Uber obtained his juris doctor from Michigan State University College of Law. Accomplishments included Dean’s List, being published in the Ingham County Bar Journal, Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and the Housing Law Clinic. He also received the Jurisprudence Award based upon representation of indigent clients before the Ingham County District and Circuit courts.

Prior to obtaining his law degree, Uber graduated from the University at Buffalo and Southwestern High School.

Spoto, Slater & Sirwatka was founded in 1928 by Ross Spoto. Both Spoto and his wife, Josephine, were awarded law degrees by the University of Buffalo. Mrs. Spoto, in 1929, became the first admitted practicing female attorney in Chautauqua County. Two of their children, Douglas A. Spoto and Charlotte R. Sirwatka, graduated law school. Douglas joined his father in 1968 and practiced law for 40 years before retirement in 2009.

Sirwatka, current managing partner, received degree status in 1992 from the University of Akron School of Law. The grandson of Ross and Josephine, he is a general practice attorney admitted to practice in the courts of New York state, as well as on the federal level. Sirwatka is also the Gerry town justice.

Since returning to Jamestown, Uber has been active within the community as a volunteer coach for the Jamestown High School mock trial team and is a member of Mount Moriah Lodge No. 145.

Uber is a general practice attorney handling all civil and criminal matters including family court, bankruptcy and real estate transactions. He anticipates admission to practice in the federal courts in the Western District of New York as well as the federal bankruptcy courts in the Western District of New York in the spring.
