Grace M. LaBardo, 89, of the Methodist Gardens and formerly of 124 E. Falconer St., Falconer, passed away Friday (Feb, 22, 2013), in WCA Hospital.
A lifelong area resident, she was born July 4, 1923, in Jamestown, the daughter of Frank and Mary Provenzano Tilaro.
Grace attended Jamestown High School and in 1977 received her GED. In earlier years, she had been employed at Fashion Clothes in Jamestown, Chautauqua National Bank, and had served as a cook for the priests and nuns of Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church. For several years, she worked as a seamstress working out of her home.
She was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church and Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, Falconer. Grace enjoyed spending time with her family, knitting and sewing.
Surviving is a son, John (Jodi) LaBardo of James-town; a daughter, Josephine “JoJo” (Thomas) Scarborough of Falconer; three grandchildren: Heidi Turner and Ambrielle LaBardo, both of Jamestown, and Michelle Burleson of Rome, NY; three great- grandchildren: Jacis and Kaiden Blake and Kennedy Burleson; and a brother, Sam Tilaro of Delmar, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony “Tony” LaBardo, whom she married Aug. 27, 1949, in Jamestown, and who died March 7, 1993; and a brother, Edward Tilaro.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. James Roman Catholic Church, Jamestown. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor of the church, will be celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Friends will be received by the family from 5-8 p.m. Sunday in the Falconer Funeral Home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to Meals on Wheels of Jamestown; or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
