Ellington Offers Home Repair Grants

The town of Ellington has funds available to help low- and moderate-income homeowners make necessary home repairs. The funds were awarded through the New York State Office of Community Renewal to assist 12 homeowners living in the town of Ellington.

The funds can be used for necessary repairs such as replacing old windows and doors, repairing roofs, foundations, wells, septic systems, electrical, plumbing or heating systems. In all cases, the property will be made lead-safe as part of the work that is done.

In order to be eligible, applicants must live in the town of Ellington, the home must be the primary residence, all taxes and homeowner’s insurance must be current, and must meet the income guidelines as follows: family of one – $32.350; family of two – $36,950; family of three – $41,550; family of four – $46,150. Adjustments are made as family size increases.

The funds available through the Ellington Town Rehab Program are a grant. The amount of the grant will vary depending on the total cost of the work, up to a maximum grant of approximately $25,000.

The town of Ellington is working with the countywide nonprofit housing rehab agency Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation and Improvement Corporation to get these funds out to those who need and deserve them.
