Katherine I. Van Every (Harris)
Katherine I. Van Every (Harris), 87, of Matthews, N.C., formerly of Falconer, N.Y., passed away on Feb. 15, 2013.
She was born March 19, 1925, at Jamestown General Hospital, the daughter of Walter and Sophie Harris.
She was a 1942 graduate of Falconer High School. She attended Jamestown Business School, and worked at the Art Metal Corp. until she married Robert F. Van Every upon his return from World War II in 1945. Katherine was very active with the Falconer United Methodist Church and served as their secretary for 20 years. She was a PTO president at South Side School, president of the Henry Mosher Post Auxiliary 638 American Legion and honored as a lifetime member. She was a homemaker until she and her husband purchased the Falconer Hardware Store in 1961. She became a true partner in this endeavor handling customer accounts, advertising, and reorganizing the store as needed. She served as president of the Falconer Business Association and is a past member and officer of the Jamestown Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert F. Van Every (May 17, 2012). She will be remembered with love and respect for her never ceasing energy, her devotion to her family and friends, her service to her church and for her community spirit.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Robert W. Van Every (Judith), Jamestown, N.Y., Cheryl and Jim Shedden, Beavercreek, Ohio, Barbara and Reid Wilson, Charlotte, N.C., and Dr. Marvin Van Every, LaCrosse,Wis. She leaves behind eight grandchildren who she dearly loved: Jennifer (Hunter) Broadwell, Jonathan (Janna) Wilson, Alison (Patrick) Layman, Benjamin (Felicia) Van Every, Catie (Jason) Smoot, Mitch Shedden, Richard Van Every and Thomas Van Every; and four great-grandchildren; Lily and Arya Katrin Wilson and Ava and Jack Broadwell.
A memorial service honoring and celebrating a life well-lived will be held on June 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Falconer United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends and family in the fellowship hall following the service.
