Elderly Man Drives Into Front Of Hanover Restaurant

HANOVER – A restaurant was damaged Tuesday morning after a motorist accidentally drove through the front of the building.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies reported Tom’s Family Restaurant at 935 Routes 5 and 20 was damaged after an elderly male driver lost control of his vehicle at 11:18 a.m. while entering a parking space. The vehicle hit the front of the restaurant, causing damage to both the vehicle and the building. No one was injured in the accident.

The driver, from Perrysburg, and the female passenger, from Versailles, were also not injured, but transported to Lake Shore Hospital. Silver Creek and Sunset Bay fire assisted at the scene.

Sue Peacock, the bookkeeper of Tom’s Family Restaurant, said there were customers in the building at the time, but luckily no one was hurt.

“There were two tables with two people at each and I had three girls working, but no one was injured. Thank God it didn’t happen during lunch hour,” she said.

She said the building inspector cleared the building of structural issues.

“There is no problem with the structure of the building. The building inspector was here and we put up a temporary wall,” she said.

Although the restaurant was closed Tuesday, Peacock said it will be business as usual today with the restaurant opening at 6 a.m.
