Church To Host Lenten Service

The First Presbyterian Church, 509 Prendergast Ave., Jamestown, continues its tradition of a midweek service at noon each Wednesday during Lent. Peggy Ambrose will preach at the service today. Lunch will follow in the church’s fellowship hall. “Past, Present, Onward!” is the title of the series of sermons this year. All are welcome to attend the service in the Bellinger Chapel.

Church To Host Mid-Winter Picnic

The Christ First United Methodist Church all-church mid-winter picnic, hosted by Mel Feather, will be held on Sunday in the Frewsburg High School. Featured will be basketball, volleyball and swimming. A tureen picnic supper follows. Persons attending should take their table service, sporting equipment and gym/swim clothes. Beverages and dessert will be provided. A freewill offering will be taken to support the lifeguard and facility expenses. For reservations or more information, call 483-5691.

Church Plans Entertaining Night

CASSADAGA – The Cassadaga Community Baptist Church, 25 Maple Ave., will hold a dinner and movie night Friday in the church fellowship hall. The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and the movie will follow. This month’s movie is “Though None Go With Me,” with Cheryl Ladd. The dinner and movie are free and open to the public.

Council To Host Budget Briefing

The Business Council of New York State will host a regional budget briefing from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday at Roberto’s, 2 E. Second St., Jamestown. Business Council officials will discuss the proposed New York state budget and its affect on businesses.

Cookie Contest Set For Tuesday

LAKEWOOD – A seniors cookie contest will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Emeritus at Lakewood, 220 Southwestern Drive, Lakewood. Seniors age 60 and over are invited to bring a dozen of their favorite and best cookie they make to be judged. The best cookie maker will receive a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart. To register, call Theresa Perrin, Emeritus life enrichment director, at 665-2414. Pre-registration is required by Monday.

‘Spaghetti Idol’ Set For Sunday

The Bemus Point Study Group members will host their annual “Spaghetti Idol” from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday in the See-Zurh House, Shaggy’s. Sauces will be prepared by eight local men competing for Sauce King of the Year. Two different pastas along with fresh bread will be served. The cost is a donation of $5 per person. Proceeds will benefit the Bemus Point Library. Voting will be held for the best sauce in town.

Falconer Seniors To Meet Monday

Falconer Senior Citizens will meet on Monday. Twenty-seven members met recently for a chili lunch, which opened with a flag salute and prayer. Get-well cards were sent to ill members. Discussion was on a pizza lunch on the Summer Wind during the summer. Entertainment was provided by Mary and Gordon Carlberg. For more information on membership, contact Ann Moren at 484-0516.
