Dunkirk Man Charged After Falling Asleep In Drive-Thru Lane

HANOVER – A Dunkirk man has been remanded to Chautauqua County Jail after police said he drunkenly fell asleep in the drive-thru lane at a Tim Hortons early Saturday morning.

Eladio Merced, of Courtney Street, was charged after Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 3:45 a.m. to the business located at Routes 5 and 20 in Hanover. Police were notified that a male was passed out behind the wheel while in the drive-thru lane.

Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies found an intoxicated Merced, 24, asleep in the running vehicle. The Dunkirk man was taken into custody and later arraigned in Hanover Court for driving while intoxicated.

Merced was remanded to County Jail and will appear back in court at a later date.
