Infinity To Host Banjo Workshop, Performance Today

Infinity Visual and Performing Arts is announcing an opportunity for students and the community tonight in Jamestown.

From 7-9 p.m., the Infinity Cafe (115 E. Third St., Jamestown) will host a banjo workshop with Gregg Robbins-Welty. In addition, there will also be a performance by Gregg’s bluegrass music group, the Haybalers.

Robbins-Welty is an accomplished banjo performer and has recently won many accolades at competitions around the country. In 2012, he placed third at the Maryland State Bluegrass Banjo Championships, fourth at the Texas State Banjo Championships, and is the reigning champion of the Virginia State Gathering the Gap Bluegrass Banjo competition.

The workshop will be immediately followed by a performance by the Haybalers. The quartet describes their music as “hill country soul.” Their original compositions range from old school country to honky-tonk, to strait ahead driving bluegrass. The other members of the band are Bryan Moore, Dylan Derby, and Warren Sischo.

The performance is free and open to the public. Students interested in music are encouraged to attend.
