Clute Gets Double-Double In Chautauqua Lake Win

PANAMA – It was close for most of the game as Chautauqua Lake (10-8, 8-4) maintained a lead over Panama (5-12, 4-8) and recorded a 65-54 Division 3 boys basketball win on Thursday night.

”We cut it to five in third quarter,” Panama coach Ed Nelson said. But in the fourth quarter, ”They made a couple of runs on us.”

Ian Clute led Chautauqua Lake with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Cody Thomas had 17 points while A.J. Hulton had 13. David Applegarth pulled down eight rebounds.

Alec Blose led Panama with 23 points and nine rebounds. Mike Rensel had 11 points and Dan Odell 10.

NELSON SPARKS PVCS

SOUTH DAYTON – Win Nelson came off the bench and provided a spark for Pine Valley.

Nelson didn’t play until the third quarter and scored 12 points as Pine Valley won a tight game from Forestville, 61-58, to close out the league season at 4-8 and 6-12 overall.

Nelson came up with 10 points during a 21-15 run to put into the lead the rest of the way, although it was just few points. Two of his baskets were three-point shots.

Forestville (2-10) had an opportunity to tie but never got off a good shot in the final seconds as the Pine Valley defense did it job.

Jake Wilcox was the leading scorer for PV with 13 points and Spencer Sticek tied Nelson with 12 points. Sticek hit on four 3-pointers and five assists while Wilcox grabbed 11 rebounds, Lucas Trombley nine.

For Forestville, Caleb Makuch had 13 points and was a terror off the boards with 15 rebounds. Adam Pleva had six assists and Wayne Hartloft six rebounds and 11 points.
