Hans J. Block

Hans J. Block, 87, of 380 Hall Road, Jamestown, N.Y., passed away at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 13, 2013) in WCA Hospital.

He was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Jamestown, N.Y., a son of the late Adolf and Else Giessler Block.

In 1933, he moved from the United States to Ger-many with his parents, living on a farm near the Baltic Sea. From 1943 to 1945 had served in the German Army. He returned to Jamestown in 1948, and worked for the Gustavus Adolphus Children’s Home, and was then drafted in to the U.S. Army, where he served from 1948 to 1949.

In 1950 he purchased a small farm which he developed into the Twin State Farms in Lander, Pa. From 1961 to 1971, he raised and sold beef cattle and from 1971 to his retirement in 1998 had operated the farm as a dairy farm.

He was a member of the Farm Bureau and other farming organizations in New York and Pennsylva-nia.

Surviving are two daughters: Heidi Block and Winnie Przybelinski, both of Jamestown, N.Y.; a son, H. Peter Block of Lander, Pa.; a grandson, Timothy Przybelinski of Jamestown, N.Y.; his twin sister, Inge Koerner of Germany; and also surviving is the mother of his children, Gertrud Block of Jamestown, N.Y.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Marcus Briggs will officiate. Burial will be in the Foster Cemetery, Lander, Pa.

Friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
