Lady T-Birds 15-0 After Victory Over Pine Valley

SOUTH DAYTON – Chautauqua Lake remained unbeaten (11-0, 15-0), but it survived a strong effort from Pine Valley in Division 4 girls basketball on Monday night.

The Lady Thunderbirds, except for a brief tie in the fourth quarter, led all the way and settled for a 44-42 win at Pine Valley (7-4, 9-8).

”The game was close all the way and it was hard-fought battle.” said Pine Valley coach Tim Nobles.

Chautauqua Lake took a 26-25 lead at halftime and extended it to 37-34 after three stanzas before being outscored by PV, 8-7, in the final quarter.

Jenna Einink grabbed 15 rebounds and Ashton Albanesius was right behind with 14 rebounds as Chautauqua Lake controlled the boards.

Scoring-wise, Einink hit 14 points, Albanesius 12 and Courtney Hewes 11 for Chautauqua Lake. Tara Hunt had seven assists and five steals and Albanesius added six steals.

Kaitlyn Hoth and Jamie Wilcox had 11 points for PV with Kayla Mansfield hauling down seven rebounds. Mansfield also had four steals and Alex Bentham handed out six assists.

PANAMA TOPS WESTFIELD

PANAMA – It was Senior Recognition Night in Panama and the Lady Panthers celebrated in style, thanks to a big second and third quarter, pulling away for a 62-37 win over Westfield.

Panama (6-5, 7-9) led by a single point, 10-9, after one quarter, then went on a 40-17 run to put things out of reach.

Brittany Lenart topped the scoring with 15 points and added six rebounds, Brionna Swanson, who was a senior honoree, scored 13 points, including six in the second quarter, and had five steals, Allison Strickland added 10 points and Megan Conway, also a senior honoree, was the top rebounder with 10.

For the Lady Wolverines (0-10, 4-16), Nina Manzella scored eight points and collected six rebounds.
