Stevens Has 23 For Gowanda In Victory

FALCONER – Falconer fell to 3-14 overall and 2-9 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 boys basketball following a 61-49 loss to visiting Gowanda.

Zach Stevens and Chase Williams did much of the heavy lifting for the Panthers. Stevens tallied a game-high 23 points while Williams, who connected on four treys, followed with 20.

Gowanda took a 31-22 lead at the break and then put the game away in the third period when it outscored the hosts 16-8.

Kyle Petersen (10 points) was the lone Golden Falcon to reach double figures in points. Nick Conti and Mitch Carter, meanwhile, split 18 and Conti hauled in a team-high six boards in the loss.

FREDONIA TOPS SWCS

FREDONIA – Nick Johnston and John Piper each had a big second half in helping the Fredonia Hillbillies (12-4, 9-2) take down the Southwestern Trojans (7-4), 79-65, Friday in Division 1action.

After the Hillbillies let a 24-17 lead slip away to a 32-all halftime score, Piper scored 20 of his game-high 24 points in the second half and Johnston scored 17 of his 23 in the final 16 minutes.

Three-point shooting was also key for the winners as Dylan Meyer hit four treys in the first quarter en route to 20 first-half points.

Meyer finished with 23 points while Johnston had eight assists and Cameron Voss added six rebounds.

The Trojans were led by Alec Peck’s 23 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
