Falconer Girls Get First Victory

FALCONER – It’s been said getting your first win as a coach might be the hardest one.

Falconer coach Emily Scholeno had watched her Lady Golden Falcons dropped their first 14 games this season. But on the 15th game, Scholeno and the Lady Golden Falcons were rewarded with a convincing 56-36 win over Gowanda in Division 1 basketball Friday night.

”Everybody played well and we were clicking on offense and defense very well,” said Scholeno, now 1-10 in the league and 1-14 overall.

”I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls,” said an elated Scholeno about the victory.

Emma Steele had 12 of her 15 points in the first half as Falconer built up a 30-17 margin. The Lady Golden Falcons were consistent with quarters of 15, 15, 14 and 12.

Shannon Gunnell collected her seventh double-double in the league with 20 rebounds and 11 points while Steele also assisted on seven baskets and Abby Courtney on four.

Alyssa Brooks brought down 10 rebounds and Brianna McFall had three steals for Falconer.

Lexi Farner had 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals in a losing cause for Gowanda
