Frewsburg Boys Suffer 62-42 Loss To Portville

FREWSBURG – Zach Blask finished with 23 points, Josh Watson and Curtis Caya had 12 each and Portville rolled to a 62-42 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 victory over Frewsburg on Thursday.

In addition to his game-high scoring total, Blask had an all-around solid showing, dishing out seven assists and making five steals.

On the defensive end, meanwhile, Portville, which employed a 1-3-1 zone, held the Bears (6-10, 3-7) to just nine opening-quarter points while scoring 17, and went on to take a 34-23 lead by the break.

Portville recorded 19 turnovers.

Alex Elderkin led in defeat with 14 points and eight rebounds. Dane Johnson also had 14 points, while Brett Johnson pulled in nine rebounds.

Portville improved to 16-2 overall and 9-2 in league. Both of its losses were to Silver Creek.

T’BIRDS ROLL

MAYVILLE – Cody Thomas and Ian Clute combined for 36 points as Chautauqua Lake (5-4, 7-8) beat Ripley (0-9, 0-12), 64-34.

Thomas pumped in 24 points and Clute had 12 points and added 18 rebounds for Chautauqua Lake. Clute also had five steals.

Vinny Shioleno sank 14 points and had four steals, Ian Petroff contributed 10 points and Kyle Hammond had seven rebounds for the Eagles.

Jordan Briggs and Kyle Mayer played strong defense in the victory.
