Man Dressed As Joker Charged With Trespassing At Applebee’s
BUSTI – A Jamestown man dressed as the Joker from the Batman films has been charged following a bizarre incident Sunday at a Lakewood restaurant.
The Lakewood-Busti Police Department in a news release said Aaron A. Chase, 24, walked into the Applebee’s Restaurant on Fairmount Avenue around 10:45 p.m. Police said Chase was dressed in all black, wearing a green wig and paint on his face similar to the Joker in Batman.
Police said Chase, who sat at the bar and wanted to be served, was intoxicated and had no money. The subject allegedly acted strange and began harassing people at the bar. Chase was asked to leave several times but refused to do so.
Chase was charged with trespassing and was issued an appearance ticket. He was transported to WCA Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Police did not take the late-night incident lightly.
“We take any call of this nature very seriously, especially in a situation where a person dresses up in this manner and enters a restaurant or business,” said Sgt. Paul Gustafson, investigator for Lakewood-Busti Police Department. “With the recent events in the country you have to take these situations seriously.”
The incident was the second in a 24-hour span that led to charges being lodged against Chase. The Jamestown resident on Saturday was cited for unlawful possession of marijuana. He was issued an appearance ticket and was due later in Busti Court to answer the charge.
