Velazquez, Tapia-Carmona Pace JHS

HAMBURG – Rosa Velazquez and Karisha Tapia-Carmona led the way for front-running Jamestown in ECIC Division 1 girls basketball on Monday night.

Velazquez scored 14 points and handed out seven assists while Tapia-Carmona added 13 points in a 64-44 victory over Frontier.

The win lifted the Lady Red Raiders to an impressive first place record of 9-1 and 12-3 overall. The loss dropped Frontier 5-5 in the Division 1 and 7-8 overall.

Velazquez scored nine points in the first half when Jamestown took a 39-30 edge.

In the second half, the defense took over and allowed Frontier just 14 points while scoring 25 points.

The Lady Red Raiders hit on eight 3-pointers with Tapia having three and Olivia Nugent two.

Chrisanna Green hauled down 14 rebounds, Lucy Pannes seven and Nugent six for Jamestown. Green also had four steals and Anne Campion nine points.

Kaitlyn Lipka sank 13 points and her sister Cisey Lipka 11 in defeat.
