Frewsburg Girls Win 12th Straight With Quick Start

FREWSBURG – The first eight minutes set up first-place Frewsburg in Division 2 girls basketball on Monday night.

Frewsburg opened up with a 25-3 first-quarter lead and then followed with 23-5 second quarter for a 48-8 lead at halftime over Cassadaga Valley en route to a 78-25 win.

Emily Hair scored seven points in the first quarter and Shawna Raymond had 10 by halftime for the Bears, who have a12-game winning streak. They are 10-0 in Division 2 and 15-1 overall.

In the fourth quarter, eight different players scored for Frewsburg.

Raymond wound up with 16 points while Hair and Annie Berg had 12 points each and Reyanne Strong added nine for the winners.

The Bears had 31 steals with Reyanne Strong having 10 and Raymond seven.

Rebounding showed Raymond with seven and Berg with six. Strong was the leader with five assists, Hair four and Raymond three.

Kristi Zink sank nine points and Shawana Miller added 10 rebounds and Jessica Burch three steals for Cassadaga Valley (3-6, 5-9).

SALAMANCA WINS

SALAMANCA – McKayla Sluga scored all 11 points in the second half as Salamanca (5-5, 9-6) rallied to defeat Portville, 32-15.

Portville was leading at halftime, 9-8, despite not scoring in the first quarter. But the hosts got going in the second half and outscored Portville, 27-6, with Sluga getting double figures.

Sluga hit a 3-pointer to put the Lady Warriors ahead, 11-9, and teammate Leenora Capron held Portville high scorer Albanie Stives to two points.

Shae Smith led the Lady Warriors with 12 points and nine rebounds. Teammate Alyssa Coustenis had seven rebounds and six steals.
