Cathleen Newhouse Benton

STOCKTON Cathleen Newhouse Benton, 54, of Stockton, N.Y., formerly of Mayville, died unexpectedly at her home on Friday (Feb. 1, 2013).

She was born in Westfield, N.Y., on Sept. 25, 1958, the daughter of Betty Newhouse of Mayville, and the late Bernard Newhouse.

Cathy was a graduate of Mayville Central School in 1976 and attended Jamestown Business College. Earlier in her life, she was employed with Chautauqua Print Shop in Mayville, Renold’s in Westfield, and Ethan Allen of Mayville. She was a member of Chautauqua Lake Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Westfield Moose and was active in the Mayville-Chautauqua Little League and Minor League organizations in the 1980s.

She was a loving daughter, sister and aunt who fought two courageous battles with cancer. She dearly loved her family, and was always there for them and she had fun shopping, antiquing, decorating her home and riding the “Harley” with her late husband, Paul Benton.

Cathy is survived by her mother Betty Newhouse; brothers: Richard (Juanita) Hubbell of Mayville, and Scott (Liz) Newhouse of Naples, Fla.; sister, Tammy Buck of Jamestown; nephews: Shane Hubbell of Mayville, and Ethan Newhouse of Naples, Fla.; great-nephews: Dylan and Derek Hubbell; and great-niece, Hyacinth Hubbell.

In addition to her father, Bernie Newhouse and husband, Paul Benton, she was preceded in death by a sister, Teri Newhouse.

Honoring Cathy’s wishes there will be no visitation. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
