Frewsburg Lions Learn About Salvation Army’s Mission

The Frewsburg Lions Club met on Jan. 14 in the Community Room at Frewsburg Central School.

The speaker for the evening was Major Douglas Hart of the Salvation Army. Major Hart reviewed the programs of the local corps that offer service to the community. This included emergency assistance, Christmas programs, youth, domestic violence, senior citizens and men’s programs. He presented an award to Jerry and Norma Eklund for nine years of dedicated service as chairs of the annual Red Kettle campaign in Frewsburg. Major Hart was introduced by Lion Jim Pullan, program chairman. President Gary Wells gave Hart a check from the club for the Salvation Army.

At the business meeting Marty Hunt reported on plans for the annual Pancake Breakfast to be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Zion Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall from 8-11 a.m. John Gatgen mentioned that $80 has been earned from the sale of Lions Club mints. Norma Eklund reported that donations of $6,412.04 were received in the December. Red Kettle campaign at the Tops Market collection site. Wells gave Jerry and Norma certificates of appreciation for their roles in chairing the campaign.
