Son Of Frewsburg Grads Headed To MLS
A Webster Thomas High School graduate (Section 5) with ties to the area has been drafted by Sporting KC, a team in Major League Soccer.
Mike Reidy, the son of Frewsburg natives Tim and Dianne Reidy and the grandparents of Larry and Jeanne Sandberg of Frewsburg, was selected in the fourth round (71st overall) in the MLS’ annual Supplemental Draft.
Reidy, a 5-foot-7, 150-pound midfielder, is a senior at Colgate University and has put together quite a soccer resume.
According to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, Reidy, a 2009 Thomas graduate, was the newspaper’s two-time All-Greater Player of the Year, an All-American as a high school senior and helped the Titans win three straight Section 5 championships. Last fall, according to the D&C, he was named the Patriot League’s Offensive Player of the Year even though the Red Raiders went 5-8-6. He had seven goals and two assists to finish his four-year career, which included 63 starts in 77 matches, with 19 goals and nine assists.
His resume also includes, All-Mid Atlantic Region’s second team as a senior and, as a freshman, was the Patriot League Rookie of the Year.
Reidy expects to report to training camp this month.
Reidy’s parents are both FCS graduates. Tim graduated in 1979 and Dianne graduated in 1980.

Freshman Jeff Green (Lakewood/Southwestern) was named the Nazareth College athlete of the week for the second time this year after posting an 11-dive score of 443.15 last Saturday at Utica to shatter the school record that has stood since 1995. The competition was broken up into separate five- and six-dive competitions and Green easily won both as the Golden Flyers won their third dual meet of the season.
Green was also named an athlete of the week on Nov. 5.

Slippery Rock senior guard Erinne Cunningham (Jamestown/Jamestown) turned in a pair of fine basketball games in the span of four days, albeit in losing causes.
Last Saturday, she scored 16 points, grabbed four rebounds, and had three assists, one block and one steal in 34 minutes in a 72-59 setback at Edinboro.
On Wednesday night, she poured in 20 points (on 5-of-12 from the arc) to go along with four rebounds, three assists, one block and three steals in a 82-64 loss against Gannon.
Slippery Rock is 4-14 on the season, including 3-11 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division.
Meanwhile, in the same game, Gannon freshman Jennie Thies (Lakewood/Southwestern) had five points, six rebounds and one steal in 15 minutes. Gannon is 19-2 overall and 13-1 in the conference.

California University of Pennsylvania senior Erin Kling (Jamestown/Jamestown) finished 10th overall in the 3,000 meters and qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships with a time of 10:40.71.

Jaysean Paige, the 2010-11 Post-Journal Player of the Year, leads the College of Southern Idaho basketball team in scoring and is coming off a pair of outstanding games last week.
The freshman guard, who played two seasons at Jamestown High School before transferring to Perry (Ky.) Central for his final year, scored 25 points in a 76-67 loss to Salt Lake Community College last Thursday and added 22 points in a 75-61 win over Snow College last Saturday.
For the season – Southern Idaho is 16-7 – Paige is averaging 13.7 points, shooting 46 percent from the field and 35 percent from the arc. He also is averaging 4.3 rebounds per contest.

Fredonia State junior guard Nikole Lindquist (Cherry Creek/Pine Valley) is averaging 2.6 steals for the Lady Blue Devils’ basketball team, which is fourth-best in the SUNYAC.
In games from last week, Lindquist scored nine points in a loss at Geneseo and had 13 points and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double in a victory over Potsdam.
