Driver Killed In Morning Crash On Reservation
BRANT – One driver was killed and another injured in an early-morning crash on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation Monday.
Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident shortly after 8 a.m. on Route 5 near the Brant town line. According to police, a vehicle traveling west operated by Donald Murray, 76, of Angola crossed into the eastbound lane. Murray’s vehicle collided with a vehicle operated by Steven Forthman, 43, of Silver Creek who was unable to avoid collision with the other vehicle.
Murray was pronounced dead at the scene. Forthman was transported to Lake Shore Hospital where he is being evaluated and treated for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation, but it appears the cause was weather related. Assisting with the call were the Brant Police Department, the Seneca Nation of Indians Marshal’s Office, and firefighters from Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, Brant and Farnham fire departments.
