Andrew Kovel

Andrew Kovel, 88, a resident of North Tonawanda, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23, in Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born July 2, 1924, in Ward, W.Va., a son of the late Levi and Mary Teslin Kovel.

Andrew was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific with the 245th Field Artillery Battalion Americal Division.

Andy was the founder of KVL Acoustical Corp. which was a commercial drywall and acoustical business based in North Tonawanda, servicing a large customer base in the Southern Tier, including Jamestown and Olean.

Andy was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 66 for more than 60 years.

He is survived by his longtime companion Sara Hood of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; five children: Kip (Marian Van Curen) Kovel of Kennedy, N.Y., Mark (Geri) Kovel of Matthews, N.C., Scott (Liz) Kovel of Buffalo, N.Y., Kevin (Lori) Kovel of Midland, N.C. and Jill (Dan) Chiacchia of Hamburg, N.Y.; his former wife, Janet Kovel of Williamsville, N.Y.; a sister, Lydia Bowers of Slippery Rock, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home, where friends will be received from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday.
