The James Prendergast Library has set a deadline of Friday for teens between the ages of 13 and 18 who want to enter a graphic novel contest with prizes for first, second and third place winners.

Teens are asked to create a graphic novel between 50 and 70 pages long dealing with the theme of anti-bullying. All material in the novel must be original and school appropriate.

Contest entries may be submitted in hard copy at the reference desk with the author’s name on a separate piece of paper stapled to the front of the document.

The contest is intended to let teens show their creativity by writing and illustrating their own book. Computers located in the teen section of the library are available for photo editing.

The idea for the graphic novel contest came from the Teen Advisory Council, which was created recently to give area youth a voice at the library. The council’s activities are coordinated by Kristie Bemis, adult services librarian.

The library is located at 509 Cherry St., Jamestown. For more information about entering the graphic novel contest or joining the Teen Advisory Council, call 484-7135 or email prendergastlibrary@yahoo.com.
