Odd Quarters Costly For Trojans

OLEAN – The first and third quarters led to the downfall of Southwestern (4-3, 7-5) on Friday night in Division 1 boys basketball.

Front-running Olean (8-0, 12-1) outscored Southwestern in the first and third periods by a 52-16 margin en route to a easy 77-40 verdict.

Wil Bathurst scored all of his 15 points and Pat Scholla delivered 10 during the third period for Olean as its press made Southwestern turn the ball over several times. Overall, the Trojans had 25 turnovers.

Sam Eckstrom scored eight of his 15 points in a 24-9 first quarter for Olean.

Scholla was high for the Huskies with 18 points followed by Bathurst and Eckstrom with 15 points and Nick Schmitt with 11 points.

Kyle Radack recorded 19 points for the Trojans and brought down five rebounds. Teammate Peter Trathen had a team-high six rebounds.
