Lady Red Dragons Move To 5-1 With Div. 3 Win Over Westfield

Everything went Maple Grove’s way as the Lady Red Dragons improved to 5-1 in Division 3 and 7-4 overall with a 40-11 rout over Westfield (0-6, 4-8) in girls basketball action on Friday.

“Our defense was the key to the win,” said Maple Grove coach Mary Bartkowski.

Leading the waywere Lauren Nickerson and Mikayla Swanson with nine points each, Emily Swanson had eight points and six rebounds, and Nickara Liddell pulled in five rebounds.

Emma Fermier had eight rebounds for Westfield

PINE VALLEY ROLLS

SOUTH DAYTON – Forestville (2-4, 6-6) jumped into the lead early, but Pine Valley regained control thanks to a big second period, and the Lady Panthers (3-3, 5-6) rolled to a 59-46 win.

The Lady Hornets went on a 9-1 roll to open the game, but Pine Valley battled back to trail by two at the end of the quarter, then broke things open with a 24-10 run in the second.

Alex Bentham led the scoring for the winners with 15 points and added five steals, Kayla Mansfield poured in 14 points and had 10 rebounds for the double-double, Kayleigh Brunswick netted 10 points and had five steals and Laurel Killock had eight steals.

For Forestville, Cherish Pope topped the scoring with 17 points, Sydney Youngberg had 12, Alisha Szumigala scored 11 points and had 11 rebounds, and Jessica Makuch had eight boards.

CLCS STILL UNDEFEATED

PANAMA – Led by sophomore Jenna Einink, Chautauqua Lake maintained its undefeated status (6-0, 10-0) in Division 3.

Einink poured in 24 points in guiding the Lady Thunderbirds to a 60-44 win over Panama (4-2, 5-5).

Besides scoring, Einink was also a factor on the boards with 17 rebounds and Ashton Albanesius added 10. Courtney Hewes and Einink tied with seven steals and Hewes additionally had six assists.

Panama had its trouble with the full-court press by making 30 turnovers.

Brianna Marsh tallied 14 points and Brittany Lenant had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Panama. Teammate Megham Conway added seven rebounds
