Farmland Owners Can Get Tax Break

Owners of actively farmed agricultural land may qualify for a partial reduction in property tax through the Agricultural Value Assessment program. For eligibility requirements, interested landowners should contact their local assessor. In order to apply for the program, Cattaraugus County landowners must first obtain a Soil Group Worksheet listing the agricultural soils for each parcel they own from the Cattaraugus County Soil & Water Conservation District. The deadline for application is March 1. To obtain a soil worksheet, contact the Conservation District with tax parcel information at 699-2326, ext. 114, or visit the district office at the USDA Service Center, 8 Martha St., Ellicottville.

Soil Board Taking Tree Orders

The Cattaraugus County Soil & Water Conservation District is accepting orders for the 2013 spring tree and shrub bare root seedling sale. Several species of conifers, hardwoods, shrubs, and berries are available, as well as assortment packets for reforestation and wildlife. Orders are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis until March 31. Seedlings will be distributed in April. To get an order form, call the Conservation District office at 699-2326.

Drum Circle To Meet Tonight

LILY DALE – The World Beat Drum Circle will meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Church of the Living Spirit, Cleveland Avenue, Lily Dale, corner of Cleveland and Library streets. George Clees will be the facilitator. All are welcome to attend, from those who have never drummed to the most experienced. Several drums will be available for use during the evening. VNA To Host Flu Shot Clinic Friday

The VNA will be holding flu and pneumonia vaccination clinics on Friday at the VNA offices, 560 W. Third St., Jamestown, from 1-5 p.m. and Saturday at the Chautauqua Mall from 1-5 p.m. Flu shots will be administered for children ages 5-17 with a parent or guardian present. Blood Bank To Hold Drive Friday

ELLINGTON – The Community Blood Bank will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ellington Fire Hall. Early registration is available by calling Alyssa at 287-2038. Blood donations are needed because the blood bank’s supply has been decreasing daily.
