Powers Shines In Trojans’ Swim Win

DUNKIRK – The Southwestern Trojans topped the Dunkirk Marauders, 97-63, in Division 1 boys swimming action on Tuesday.

Jordan Powers was a double winner in the 100 freestyle (48.31) and 100 backstroke (1:05.06) for the Trojans while helping both the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams to first-place finishes.

Joining Powers on the 200 freestyle relay team were Jake Cotter, Bryant Konnor and Carl Shoup. The quartet touched the wall first in a time of 1:44.45. The same four won the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:55.41.

Cotter also took first in the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.94 while Harry Troche took first in the 200 freestyle (2:05.51), as well as the 100 backstroke (1:03.26). Alex Beckerink was first in the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:46.86.

ST. JOE’S WINS TWO

FREWSBURG – Frewsburg played host to Tonawanda’s St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and Panama in a double dual meet.

It was a good day for the Marauders as they picked up two victories, defeating Panama, 64-37, and the Bears, 64-47. Frewsburg also downed Panama, 61-40.

Yousef Eltagouri doubled for St. Joseph’s in the 200 freestyle (2:12.44) and the 100 breaststroke (1:19.51) and his teammate, Dan Dirrigl was a double winner in the 200 individual medley (2:27.95) and the 400 freestyle (4:38.11).

Ray Fortney was the diving winner for Panama with 192.53 points and for the Bears, Shaun McDonald took first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:12.07.
