Clymer Girls Break Into State Rankings

SYRACUSE – Just hours after toppling rival Sherman, the Clymer Lady Pirates are getting another bit of good news courtesy of the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Clymer, which is currently 8-2 overall and in a three-way tie for first place in Division 4, broke into the NYSSWA rankings for the first time this season in the most recently released girls basketball poll, coming in at No. 20 in the state for Class D.

Sherman, which had been undefeated at 10-0 before Tuesday’s loss, is No. 4.

In Class AA, meanwhile, Jamestown, behind a solid week that saw the Lady Red Raiders defeat both Frontier and Lancaster, moved up one place from a week ago to No. 29 behind its 8-2 mark.

Chautauqua Lake leads area squads with a No. 3 position in the Class C poll. The Lady Thunderbirds are a perfect 8-0 this year.

Right behind is Frewsburg, with its 10-1 record, at No. 9 while rounding out the list is Randolph (8-2) at No. 24.

In the boys rankings, Olean (9-1) moved atop the rankings for the first time in Class B.

Silver Creek climbed one place to No. 2 in Class C. The Black Knights are one of the last remaining undefeated teams in the area at 10-0. Following in Class C is Maple Grove (9-1), which held steady at No. 5.

In Class D, Sherman, currently 7-2 overall, rose two spots to No. 9 while Clymer (7-2) managed a three-place rise from No. 15 to No. 12.

Jamestown dropped two places to No. 24 in Class AA.
