JCC Swimmers Shine At Herkimer
HERKIMER – Jamestown Community College’s men and women’s swimming teams won the Herkimer CC Spring Invitational decisively on Saturday afternoon.
The Jayhawks finished with 581 points, Cazenovia 495 and host Herkimer CC 297 in swimming results.
Tom Prinzi was first in the 1,650 (20:39.70) and also took the 200 individual medley (2:23.06). Victor Hallett captured the 100 backstroke (1:05.52) and John Trombetta won the 100 breaststroke (1:12.35) and was second in the 50 freestyle (24.03).
The 200 medley relay team placed first with a time of 1:58.23 and that unit was made up of Derek Hosier, Phil Tubbs, Prinzi and Hallett. Hosier was second in the 200 individual medley (2:25.43).
For the women, Kelsey Akin was a triple winner in the 200 freestyle (2:12.34), the 200 individual medley (2:30.27) and the 200 backstroke (1:09.30).
Akin joined Emily Holt, Emily Windoft and Sarah Madison on the winning 200 freestyle relay unit (1:55.53).
Holt was a double winner in the 1,650 (2:25.70) and the 500 freestyle (6:00.06).
”We had a great meet in our first competition after the winter break,”said Coach Mike Giambruno. We hadn’t swam in a month and I’m proud of what we did with a lot of personal bests.”
The next competition for JCC is at the Monroe CC Invitational next Saturday.
