Ernest P. “Ernie” Kenyon

RANDOLPH – Ernest P. “Ernie” Kenyon, 64, of Hall St., Randolph, N.Y., passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Veterans Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y.

A lifelong area resident, Ernie was born July 23, 1948, in Salamanca, N.Y., the son of the late Paul Kenyon and Twilla Joanne Burdic Barber.

He was a graduate of Randolph Central School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War era from Jan. 22, 1969, to Nov. 11, 1970.

Ernie retired in 2000 from the New York state Department of Transportation as a truck driver and in earlier years had worked at Allegany State Park.

He was a life member of the Coldspring Fire Department and member of the Randolph American Legion Post 181 and Randolph Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 2273 and was a former member of the Randolph Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 6533. He enjoyed reading, fishing and hunting.

Ernie is survived by four children; Julie Trumble of Texas, Richard Kenyon of Montana, and Michael and Kyle Kenyon of Meadville, Pa.; a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Jones of Steamburg; two half sisters: Sandy and Norma Kenyon of Salamanca, a stepsister, Penny Barber Peterson of Salamanca; a stepbrother; Ricky Barber of Salamanca; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Gloria Evanock.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 13, 2013), in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, NY 14772. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home where the Rev. Buck Young will officiate. Burial will be in the Steamburg Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by members of the Randolph American Legion Post 181.
