Military Scene

BIELATA – Army Pvt. Jarrett K. Bielata, a 2008 graduate of Jamestown High School, graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Kellie Bielata of Jamestown.

BOGNER – Army National Guard Pvt. Kurt O. Bogner graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo, which included basic and advanced individual training. A 2011 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School, he is the son of Lisa Bogner of Stockton.

BARLOW – Navy Seaman Gregory G. Barlow Jr., a 2010 graduate of Pine Valley Central School, attended the inactivation of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. He is the son of Jolene M. Parker of Jamestown.

BROWN – Navy Seaman Recruit Justin T. Brown, the son of Chastity A. Robinson of Tennessee and Timothy R. Brown of Cherry Creek, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

COLLAZO – Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Tristan L. Collazo attended the inactivation of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, the world’s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier. A 2006 graduate of Fredonia High School, he is the son of Ilda Lopez of Fredonia.

DEVLIEGER – navy Seaman Apprentice Jeffrey A. Devleiger, the son of Tammy L. Devlieger and Richard A. Devlieger, both of Lakewood, attended the inactivation of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, the world’s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier. He is a 2009 graduate of Southwestern Central School.

ELMQUIST – Navy Fireman Ty Elmquist, the son of Tammy Szymczyk of Warren and Jim Elmquist of Cherry Grove, Pa., attended the inactivation of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, the world’s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier. He is a 2010 graduate of Sheffield High School.

FLORES – Marine Corps Pvt. Noe Flores, the son of Francisca Torrres and Jose L. Perez, both of Dunkirk, ws selected as the academic honor graduate from the Basic Combat Engineer Course, Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He is a 2009 graduate of Dunkirk Senior High School.

GREKALSKI – Sgt. Joseph M. Grekalski received an honorable discharge following a five year commitment in the U.S. Army where he served as a Special Forces Communication Specialist. He had been stationed at Fort Jackson, S.C., Fort Mead, Md., Fort Benning Ga., Fort Bragg, N.C., Korea and Afghanistan. He received the Afghanistan Campaign, National Defense Service, Global War on Terrorism, Korean Defense Service and Army Commendation Medal; Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development, Army Service and Expert Marksmanship Badges; The Parachutist Badge with Wings and the Warrior Leadership Course Citation. He is a 2003 graduate of Frewsburg Central School.

HOLLAND – Army Pvt. Timothy J. Holland, the son of Kathleen Holland of Allegany, graduated from basic infantry training, Fort Benning, Columbus, Pa.

HUMPHREY – Robert B. Humphrey was promoted to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Army and is the deputy commander of the U.S. Army Garrison at Fort McCoy, Wis. His wife, Rhonda, is the daughter of Carol A. Johnson of Warren.

JENKINS – Army Pvt. Cassandra L. Jenkins, a 2009 graduate of Gowanda Central High School, graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

JOHNSTON – Navy Capt. Charles B. Johnston, the son of Kathryn M. and Charles W. Johnston of Brocton, relinquished duties as commanding officer, Navy Information Operation Command Norfolk/Commander Task Force 1030, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek/Fort Story, Va. where he was responsible for operations and administration of three subordinate commands and one detachment. He was also responsible for the Naval Operational Security Support Team providing OPSEC training to the Fleet and Family Readiness Groups. Johnston is a 1979 graduate of Brocton Central high School, earned a bachelor of science degree from Pennsylvania State University, State College, Pa. in 1983 and a master of science degree in 1990 from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif.

KEARNS – Navy Seaman Recruit Cory J. Kearns, the son of Barbara J. Dutton of Marion, Ohio and Christopher J. Kearns of Jamestown, attended the inactivation of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, the world’s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier.

KELLY – Air Force Airman Andrew S. Kelley, a 2005 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

LEICHNER – Air Force Airman Caleb J. Leichner, a 2010 graduate of Frewsburg Central High School, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is t he son of Suzan Cardinale of Frewsburg and Charles Leichner of Fredonia.

LUCAS – Navy Lt. Emily S. Lucas, the daughter of Bob and Michelle Lucas of Bemus Point, completed a three year tour of duty at Naval Hospital Portsmouth, Va., and is stationed at Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan.

MAHANES – Marine Corps Pfc. Michael Mahanes, the son of Jennifer Leavens and Dennis Brooks of Union City, Pa. graduaetd from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. He is the grandson of Joanne Leavens of Jamestown.

PLOETZ – Navy Seaman Apprentice Olivia Ploetz, a 2012 graduate of Cattaraugus Little Valley High School, was promoted to her current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. She received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle.

REIDY – 2nd Lt. Shawn Reidy, a 2008 graduate of Frewsburg Central School, was selected to become a helicopter pilot with the U.S. Army and will enter active duty and attend the Aviation Basic Officer Leaders Course and SERE-C School and the Initial Entry Wing Aviator course. The son of Tom and Cindy Reidy, of Frewsburg, he is a 2012 graduate of Niagara University earning a degree in internal studies and military science and his commission as a second lieutenant of aviation.

RUSSELL – Army Reserve Pvt. Robert D. Russell, a 2012 graduate of Gowanda High School, graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Ronald and Margaret Russell of Collins.

SEKUTERSKI – Air National Guard Airman Joshua K. Sekuterski, the son of Susan and Jeffrey Sekuterski of Cassadaga, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is a 2010 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central and also earned an associates degree from Jamestown Community College in 2010.

STEEL – Navy SEaman Apprentice Clarissa I. Steel, the daughter of Anne L. Steel, of Frewsburg, and Patrick P. Steel, of Mapleton Depot, Pa., completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. She is a 2012 graduate of Frewsburg Central High School.

WARGO – Air Force Reserve Airman Scott J. Wargo, the son of Rene Wargo of Dayton, kgraduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

WOLFE – Air National Guard airman Misty B. Wolff, the daughter of Sherry Wolff of Buffalo, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is a 2006 graduate of Fredonia High School.
