Alfonso Richardson

Alfonso Richardson, 84, of 48 W. 11th St., died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2013, in WCA Hospital.

He was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Grand Junction, Tenn., a son of Dr. Robert W. and Symanthia Sisk Richardson.

He attended school in Grand Junction, Tenn., and later served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Retiring in 1990, Mr. Richardson had been employed as a machine operator for Marlin Rockwell, SKF.

He was a former member of the Elks Club and a Renaissance Man. In his spare time Alfonso enjoyed time fishing, hunting, and loved his time with his grandson and family.

Surviving are his wife, the former Betty Butler; son, Willis (Dawn) Richardson of Elkridge, Md.; grandson, Donovan Richardson of Elkridge, Md.; sister, Lue Dobbins, San Bernardino, Calif.; brothers: Bob (Cleola) Richardson of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and Herbert Richardson, Compton, Calif.; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Richardson and Margaret Richardson; He also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bobbie Horton; and brothers: David Steward and Mark and John Richardson.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, where the Rev. Annette M. Hood, the Rev. Darren Bryant and the Rev. Leroy Walker will officiate.
