Sherman Moves Record To 9-0

SHERMAN – Improved second-half – and in particular, third-quarter – rebounding was the difference in Sherman’s slim, 55-51, victory over non-league foe Panama on Tuesday.

With the win the Lady Wildcats (9-0) remained undefeated on the season.

“We didn’t give up as many second-chance opportunities in the second half,” Sherman coach Mel Swanson said. “In the first half we gave up too many offensive rebounds and (Panama) made them count.”

Panama, a Division 3 squad, led by four, 15-11, at the end of the first period before Sherman tied the game at 26 by the break. Sherman then got its rebounding in order in the third frame and held the Lady Panthers to just five points while scoring 12, building a lead it would maintain the rest of the way.

Elle Reed led the victors with 27 points, 10 rebounds and six assists; Bridget Yaw hit a trio of 3-pointers on the way to 13 points; Danielle Reed added seven points, 10 rebounds and six assists; and Katrina Christmas followed with six points and nine boards.

For Panama, Allison Strickland had 18 points while Brianna Marsh finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
