Frewsburg Girls Roll To Victory

SINCLAIRVILLE – ”The wheels fell off in the second half,” said coach Mark Petersen after Cassadaga Valley was defeated by frontrunning Frewsburg (4-0, 9-1) in Division 2 girls basketball Tuesday night.

Cassadaga Valley stayed with Frewsburg until the Bears ran off the final seven points in the second quarter for a 30-18 halftime margin.

Then a swarming defense led to many turnovers in a 20-5 third stanza and the Bears went on to record a 64-29 verdict.

”We couldn’t handle the pressure,”said Petersen, whose team dipped to 1-3 in the league and 3-6 overall.

Shawna Raymond scored 19 points and did so very consistently with 10 in the first half and nine more in the second half for Frewsburg.

Reyanne Strong contributed 12 points, Kamryn Gardner nine points and Emily Hair eight points for the winners. Strong, Olivia Lynn and Gardner had five rebounds in a department won by the Bears, 24-20.

Hair had seven assists and Strong five steals for the Bears.

Heather Ames was high for the Lady Cougars with seven points followed by Kristi Zink and Jessica Burch with six points each. Zink and Shawana Miller hauled down six rebounds.

SILVER CREEK WINS

CATTARAUGUS-Jordan Brooks stuffed the stat sheet for Silver Creek, scoring a game-high 24 points to go along with nine rebounds and five blocks as the Lady Black Knights handled Cattaraugus-Little Valley, 68-23.

Silver Creek, now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in league, jumped out to a 16-2 lead in the first quarter and then poured in 24 points – compared to the host’s seven – in the second frame to build an insurmountable 40-9 advantage at the break.

Along with Brooks, Jade Lewis netted 12 points, made five steals and dished eight assists. Marissa Donovan chipped in with eight points and seven boards.

Kaylee Eaton led in defeat with nine points, three steals and two blocks, and the Lady Timberwolves fell to 1-8 and 0-3.
