Falconer Finishes Second At NFWOA Tournament

SANBORN – Kyle Ross had the best finish, second place, for Falconer when it placed second with 163 points in the 37-team Niagara Frontier Wrestling Officials Association Tournament at Niagara County Community College on Saturday.

Ross lost in the championship at 138 pounds to Dan Reagan of Lewiston-Porter, 7-3.

As a team, Falconer had its best finish ever in the event as the Golden Falcons finished 11th a year ago.

Austin Lynn of Frewsburg and Dusty Lewis of Salamanca also lost in title bouts.

Anthony Liberatore of Williamsville South blanked Lynn, 7-0, at 182 pounds and Lewis was beaten by James Empfield of Lancaster, 5-3, at 195 pounds.

Brandon Muntz of Falconer finished third at 126 pounds after downing D.J. Marshall of Lewiston-Porter, 6-2, to give the Golden Falcons the runner-up position by one point over Lewiston-Porter, which ended up with 162 points.

Lewiston-Porter was ranked No. 8 in the latest state ratings.

Trevor Spicer of Frewsburg was also was a third-place finisher at 195 pounds by beating Colby Durinka of Williamsville South, 7-4.

Javen Newman of Falconer came in fourth after dropping the 285-pound consolation bout to Pat Faracca of Williamsville East, 6-3.

Ten wrestlers for Falconer placed in the top eight and besides Ross, Muntz and Newman it had Kyle Blake fifth and Ricky Griffith seventh at 99 pounds.

Jacob Peru came in fifth at 106 pounds and Dylan Ingrao eighth, Tim Franzen seventh at 120 pounds, Jake Youngberg eighth at 145 pounds and Jake Penhollow fifth at 195 pounds.

Webster Schroeder from Section 5 won the title with 185 points while Salamanca was 21st with 52 points and Frewsburg 26th with 47 points.

Liam Anderson of Webster Schroeder received the aggregate-pin award by pinning his 170-pound opponents in 5:41.

Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer of Cheektowaga (132) won the annual Illio DiPaulo Memorial as the outstanding wrestler.

Desha Duckworth of Niagara Falls (160) took the Tom Broad Overachiever Award, which is given to an unseeded wrestler who is outstanding.
