A Generous Donation

BEMUS POINT – An anonymous donor helped the village of Bemus Point get ready for Arbor Day a few months early.

Recently, someone who Jill Braund, Bemus Point village clerk, is calling “a generous friend” planted, fed, staked and mulched 13 new maple trees on Maple Street.

“Imagine the surprise and delight of the mayor, trustees and residents driving down (Maple Street) and seeing those lovely hardwoods,” said Braund.

According to Braund, the village has lost many elms, oaks and other large trees over the years to age and disease.

“We are trying to keep up on replanting (new trees), but our budget is stretched like every other municipality,” said Braund. “Of course, residents are always encouraged to plant, and our mayor is forming a committee as part of our beautification project to do just that. We cannot thank our benefactor enough for this beautiful gift that will be enjoyed for many generations. It seems that our park is also going to receive six Northern red oaks that will grow to cast a stately shade on a warm summer day. We are thankful in Bemus Point (for the generosity of our residents).”
