Celoron Woman Faces Multiple Charges After Attempted Theft

BUSTI – A Celoron woman was issued an appearance ticket after police say she used her 13-year old child to help steal merchandise from a local store.

In a news release, the Lakewood-Busti Police Department said they were notified on Monday around 3 p.m. for a shoplifter at the Lakewood Wal-Mart on Fairmount Avenue. Upon arrival, police found Jennifer Lynn Aldrich attempting to leave the store without paying for $73.74 worth of merchandise.

Further investigation found Aldrich had used her 13-year-old child to assist her in committing the crime, although police did not specify how the teenager was involved. Aldrich also was found to be in possession of marijuana during the incident.

Police later learned that in 2009 Aldrich had been advised by Wal-Mart staff to not enter the store. It is unknown what lead to the store ban four years ago.

Aldrich was arrested and charged with petit larceny, fourth-degree conspiracy, trespassing, endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful possession of marijuana.

She was issued an appearance ticket and is due back in Town of Busti Court at a later date.
